Customs prepared for Implementation of GST System: Khazali
TAWAU, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysian Customs Department is ready to implement the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system if the government wants GST to be implemented.

Its director-general, Datuk Khazali Ahmad said, preparations had to be made, as the department would be entrusted with setting up the GST system, if the government decided in its favour.

"We must be prepared in terms of personnel and the system (that will be used)," he told reporters after attending the Sabah Customs Open House in Tawau which was also attended by Sabah Customs director Datuk Dr Janathan Kandok.

According to Khazali, other than giving training and related courses to the Customs personnel, awareness courses were organised for the public and traders dealing with GST.

He said, in terms of facility and equipment, the department was also formulating a suitable computer system for the GSP system when implemented.
